FAQs

What is pre-tensioned concrete?

The pre-stressed method is one technique of producing concrete products and is the process used by Mac-Fab concrete beds. This method consists of pouring concrete between tensioned steel and when the concrete is cured adheres to the steel forming a bond. When the bonding process is complete the tension is released from the bed causing a transfer of stress to the concrete. This process like all pre stressed concrete processes gives the concrete structure more durability, higher resilience against cracking and disperses load more evenly though out the structure.

Is the quality of steel and concrete important?

The bonding process between the steel and concrete is very important to the overall strength of the concrete product. Unsuitable materials can have adverse effects such as lack of tension in steel, creep and cracking of concrete.

What is the cycle time for making pre stressed products?

Providing that Mac-Fab beds are properly insulated with under bed heating all products can be manufactured on a daily basis.

What is the lifetime of a pre stressed bed?

Mac-Fab pre stressed beds with proper maintenance have lasted over 20 years.

Does Mac-Fab offer a turn key operation?

With the exception of the heating boiler Mac-Fab supply and install all ancillary equipment to complete the manufacturing process.

What are the benefits of wet cast pre stressed concrete over extruded pre stressed concrete?

Mac-Fab have for final finishing always used the wet cast method because it gives a better bonding to the pre stressed strand/wire and a superior quality finish as extruded concrete can allow an undesired finish.
